Time for some Green Beret and Navy Seals.

We’ve seen a handful of soldier workouts, including Punisher, Wolverine Weapon-X and a ton of others; but it’s time to step it up a notch.

This week we’re going in for the kill and training like Sam Fisher and Solid Snake.

These are requested routines from SHJ Army member Joseph, but he’s definitely not the first to bring up the names for routines.

We’ve seen a ton of video game characters as well, like our Mortal Kombat characters (Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Shao Kahn, Kitana, Johnny Cage); Tekken and Street Fighter (Anna and Nina Williams, Zangief, King, Ryu); and so much more (Resident Evil’s Claire Redfield, Tomb Raider, and the list goes on and on).

Most are fighters, but now we’re taking our training to a different place and headed back to military style.

Solid Snake is pretty short.

Technically he’s even shorter than Sam Fisher by a couple inches depending on which year of citation you go by.

Vegetawere tiedWolverinefor the shortest spot among comic characters we’ve seen at 5’3, prior to theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlescoming in at 5’2, (andGimlieven shorter) – butDamian Wayne(Robin) is only 5’4.Gokuisn’t that tall either, though, standing only 5’7, withMiles Morales only an inch above him.

One Punch Manfalls in at 5’9 right there withRyu,Nightwingat 5’10, and thenSpider-Man,Daredevil, andGreen Arrowcoming in around 5’11 andBeastjoining them.

Just above them areAquaman,Red HoodandPunisherstanding only an inch or so taller.

We’ve hadSupermanand Eddie Brock’sVenomat 6’3, andCaptain America,ScorpionandBatmanat 6’2, and Carnage at 6’1.ThorandCyborgare towering over them at 6’6,ThanosandKingright there with them at 6’7,Baneat 6’8, andDeathstrokeright below at 6’5, andBlack Mantaat 6’4.

And, of course,HulkandBrolyare both up there with them, and sometimes even portrayed much taller.

Yeah, that meansAll Mightwas the tallest at 7’2, only sometimes surpassed by The Hulk – andZangiefjust missing the tallest spot at 7’0!

And I say “was” becauseRonanandSagatare 7’5, andDoomsdaycame in at 8’10, and I doubt any characters are touching that anytime soon.

But, don’t worry if you’re not the same height or weight range.

Solid Snake Diet and Nutrition

**Keep in mind: this section will be nearly identical for each hero, unless I mentioned differently (for example someone like Hellboy may get something specifically different)**

Every hero needs to still have a good diet.

Unfortunately we can train like them, but I don’t think any of us are suddenly getting their powers, or the ability to magically stop caring about nutrition.

You can’t out train your diet, so I want to still give some pillars for nutrition.

Solid Snake Workout Routine Research

We’ve made it to “the fun part”.

And, if you don’t know by now, I say that every single time we get to the workout routine research section for character workouts.

This is where I get to break down the “how” and “why” of the workout we’re going to build based on the characters, in this case Solid Snake’s, powers and/or abilities.

Actually, though, Solid Snake doesn’t have “abilities” in the normal way we’re used to seeing. Instead we’ll go through some of his background to give you a more clear cut answer on who he is.

For starters, his occupation is listed as this on his Wiki Fandom:

Spy, Soldier, Mercenary and Musher

And his affiliations are:

United States Army, Green Berets and FOXHOUND; CIA; Philanthropy

That tells you a bit right off the bat.

He’s also been in five different Metal Gear games, and then also appears in Super Smash Bros as well.

You know, for all you gamers like me out there who like to have these facts thrown in.

But okay, let’s jump back a bit to his background information:

Solid Snake, real nameDavid, also known asOld Snake, and briefly known asIroquois Pliskin, or simplySnake, was a former spy, special operations soldier, andmercenary. Possessing an IQ of 180 and fluent in six languages, he was known as “the Man Who Makes the Impossible Possible” and his exploits made him into a living legend among the military black ops.

A product of theLes Enfants Terriblesproject, Snake was a clone of world renowned soldierBig Boss, along with his brothersLiquid SnakeandSolidus Snake. Initially aGreen Beret, Snake was later inducted into High-Tech Special Forces UnitFOXHOUNDin the mid1990swhile it was commanded by Big Boss. Repeatedly tasked with disarming and destroying the latest incarnation ofMetal Gear, a bipedal nuclear weapon-armed tank, Snake would thrice avert potential nuclear catastrophe, becoming a famed war hero.

Following theShadow Moses Incidentand subsequent smear campaign bythe Patriots, the secret organization behind American politics, Snake was labeled a terrorist. He faked his own death in the ManhattanTanker Incident, though he re-emerged years later to assistRaidenin theBig Shell Incident. During this time, his body entered a state of accelerated aging, due to intentional genetic changes made during the cloning process, causing his health to decline.

In 2014, Snake performed his final mission, during which he defeatedLiquid Ocelotand destroyed the Patriots. After one last encounter with Big Boss, Snake chose to live his remaining days in peace.

I apologize that it’s a bit long but I figured if you were into it you’d want all the information, and if not you can easily get the gist of where we’re going with this from the first small paragraph there.

Training Volume:

5+ days per week

Explanation:

For this one we’re going straight to the source. We know Solid Snake is a Green Beret, so we’re going to train like one. Who better to tell us how to do that than Military.com? The source. I’m going to be sharing a workout provided for the first test which is Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course (SFAS). We’ll call this the beginner workout before the Green Beret workout. From there I’ll be sharing a much more advanced routine that is based around the Q Test to become a Green Beret after you are chosen for the test (called Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC)).

Solid Snake Workout: Beginner Workout for SFAS Test Prep

The actual test is as follows:

  • Complete the 2-mile run in at least 12 to 14 minutes
  • 100 sit-ups in 2 minutes
  • 100 push-ups in 2 minutes

If you complete this in it’s entirety (within the time) you get a score of 300.

You need minimum of a 260 to pass.

So here is your prep work:

3-5 days per week of the following:

  • 1-3 mile run (make sure to switch distance each time)
  • 250 Push Ups
  • 200 Sit Ups
  • 150 Air Squats
  • 100 Pull Ups

These can and should be broken down into individual sets.

Solid Snake Workout: Advanced Workout for SFQC Test Prep

This is a direct workout for test prep from Military.com. This is advanced and high volume so keep that in mind when you work your way up to it.

Swimming:NEVER Swim Alone

  • Two to three times a week, 1,000 to 2,000 meters each time.
  • One day a week, try to swim wearing cammies and boots for 100 meters.
  • Wear fins when swimming half the time as well.

Running:

  • Four to five times a week, 3 to 5 miles as fast as you can.
  • Twice a week, do rucksack marches carrying a 30 to 50-pound load marching 5 to 15 miles at a fast walking pace.

PT: Every Other Day

  • Pull-ups, 75 to 100 repetitions (seven to 10 sets of 10 reps).
  • Push-ups, 200 to 300 repetitions (10 to 15 sets of 20 reps).
  • Sit-ups, 200 to 300 repetitions (five to 10 sets of 40 to 50 reps).
