What is the difference between Solid Snake and solidus Snake? ›

Solidus' in-game model is a re-textured version of Solid Snake's, maintaining the same facial shape but with the addition of details such as wrinkles, paler skin and aged hair. Kojima used this unique method to authentically display that Solid Snake and Solidus were clones.

During their fight, it is revealed that Solid and Liquid are twin brothers artificially conceived from Big Boss's genes during the "Les Enfants Terribles" government project designed to create the perfect soldier, in which one brother was genetically modified to be superior over the other.

As Solid Snake (and the player) discovers the truth about Liquid's origin, Liquid Snake is eventually revealed as the dominant brother at the end of MGS1. The reason for this is down to the "Les Enfant Terrible" cloning project deliberately hiding these details to make Liquid Snake fight harder than Solid Snake.

Behind the scenes

Liquid was cloned from Big Boss's DNA as part of the Les Enfants Terribles project, along with his brothers Solid Snake and Solidus Snake. He was almost an exact double of Solid Snake in terms of appearance, with the only distinguishable feature being his darker skin tone and fair hair color.

Liquid harbors a strong resentment towards his twin brother Solid Snake, as he mistakenly believes that Snake received Big Boss's superior genes while he was given only the flawed genes.

He was genetically and almost physically identical to Big Boss, which he took great pride in. Like the other clones, Solidus' genes were altered so he aged at an accelerated rate, but even faster than that of Solid and Liquid Snake.
