KYTC is aggressively pursuing initiatives and projects thatmaintain our infrastructure while getting the most mileage out of every dollar toimprove the quality of life for Kentuckians. Brent Spence Bridge
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Ohio Department of Transportation are pursuing federal funding to solidify plans to construct a new companion bridge and execute eight miles of interstate improvements to improve safety and travel along one of the most important national commerce corridors.


The Mountain Parkway Expansion will improve highway safety along a vital Kentucky corridor and close the transportation gap that currently stands between the citizens of Eastern Kentucky and the rest of the Commonwealth. ​

The I-69​ Ohio River Crossing is the key final connection of I-69 between Evansville, Indiana and Henderson, Kentucky.

It will provide interstate cross-river connectivity that will reduce traffic congestion and delays while improving safety for drivers.

The passage of the bipartisan federal infrastructure package has created a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve the quality of life for travelers who use the Brent Spence Bridge. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Ohio Department of Transportation are pursuing federal funding to solidify plans to construct a new companion bridge and execute eight miles of interstate improvements to improve safety and travel along one of the most important national commerce corridors. Statewide Initiatives and Regional Projects (10)Long-Range Statewide Transportation Plan

KYTC is updating its Long-Range Statewide Transportation Plan (LRSTP) and gathering input from the traveling public through a statewide transportation survey. To take the survey and learn more, visit GetThereTogetherKY.org.


Emergency Notice

Free online service for Kentucky drivers to designate an emergency contactlaw enforcement can notify in the event of a serious vehicle crash or emergencysituation.

KYTC will develop an understanding of both strengths and weaknesses of the current freight network, recommend improvements to create efficiencies and strengthen the system, and demonstrate the ability to connect with critical markets and supply chain sectors domestically and abroad.

Know Your Limits

Heavy emergency vehicles use bridges and culverts to transport staff and equipment in critical situations. KYTC has developed a resource for fire departments to search for bridge and axle weight limits, and to review an interactive map of bridges with weight limits sorted by county.

Linking Kentucky

Linking Kentucky is a planning study that will examine current and future transportation needs, gather insights from leaders and citizens and prioritize those corridors that have the greatest potential to better link Kentucky’s regions and improve mobility, accessibility and safety.

Kentucky is advancing the issuance and production process of driver's licenses, permits and personal IDs in an effort to improve the security of state-issued credentials and to comply with federal REAL ID standards.

SHIFT

The Strategic Highway Investment Formula for Tomorrow (SHIFT) is a data-driven, objective approach to prioritize transportation spending. Watch this video to learn more about how SHIFT is making every dollar count.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has partnered with seven other states to launch a real-time parking availability information system for commercial drivers to improve the safety and efficiency of the region’s freight network.

Bridging Kentucky is one of the nation's most aggressive bridgerehabilitation and replacement programs in the nation.

Vested in Work Zone Safety

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s year-round initiative to improve work zone safety by encouraging safe driving behaviors for motorists and safe practices for workers.

Northern Kentucky is booming and this website is dedicated to major projects scheduled in the region that improve safety, support job creation, and provide better access to drivers who travel throughout northern Kentucky.

Statewide Initiatives and Regional Projects (21)I-Move Kentucky

I-Move Kentucky is the state’s innovative approach to improving the safety, ease of travel, and quality of life for travelers and businesses that frequently use I-265, I-71, and I-64. Using a four-projects-in-one approach, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will be able to address some of its highest-priority transportation needs.

I-64/I-75 Widening

The two-mile project will widen I-75/I-64 from six toeight lanes betweenParis Pike, &Newtown Pike exits in Lexington, KY (Fayette Co.).

The Mountain Parkway Expansion will improve highway safety along a vital corridor and close the transportation gap to improve access to eastern Kentucky.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and KYTC are committed to improving the I-69 corridor by creating an I-69 Ohio River Crossing (I-69 ORX) between Evansville, In. and Henderson, Ky.

U.S. 641 Expansion

The U.S. 641 project, from Eddyville to Fredonia, aims to better connect the region and improve safety and mobility.
