I’m not a cuddly sleeper. I’m a full-on subscriber to Chandler’s “hug and roll”. But, for the last few weeks I have been falling asleep cuddling what can only be described as a Large Sausage Pillow. Yes, I know, it’s a strange turn of events. But if you’re pregnant, or suffer from neck or back pain, or you just don’t sleep as well as you should, then you may just want to read on.
Large Sausage Pillow is in fact Kally Sleep’s flagship product – an orthopaedic body pillow which you basically cuddle while you sleep to help relieve aches and pains.
All of Kally Sleep’s products are dedicated to helping people sleep better, and they’re even designed by Harley Street doctors and osteopaths – so you know you’re in good hands. I’m borderline obsessed with getting a good night’s sleep, so these products are right up my street.
Kally Sleep is a relatively new brand offering a full range of orthopaedic sleep products to suit different needs. They offer a side-sleeper pillow, an adjustable pillow, an anti-snoring pillow (definitely need this one for hubby) and more.
What is the Kally Body Pillow?
Designed by osteopaths, the Kally Body Pillow is Kally Sleep’s best seller.
The pillow arrived in a box, rolled up and neatly tied. The pillow filling is hollowfibre, it’s hypoallergenic and is also Intertek certified, meaning the product is safe and stable. It comes with a free Jersey cotton cover, which is available in a range of different colours (usually £12.99 although you can order a second for £9.99). I opted for ‘heathered grey’ which matches our bedroom perfectly.
How do you use it?
To support you when you sleep
The Kally Body Pillow really is the size of a body! (160cmx35cm) It’s like having another person in the bed. If you share your bed with a partner, you may find they’re initially a little unimpressed with the size of it, but stick with it because they soon get over it.
While cuddling Sausage Pillow may feel a little strange at first, after the first couple of nights you’re kind of okay with it.
The pillow is designed to ease neck and back pain, and encourage you to fall into a deeper sleep by taking the pressure off various points in your body. The website says you may feel as though you’re floating. There is definitely something very comforting about cuddling it!
I do suffer from lower back pain, and I must admit that once I’ve assumed the correct position (placing the pillow between knees and elbows and under the head for support), it does feel as though the pressure has been gently eased from my lower back.
The pillow seems to cleverly support you in all the rightplaces, and I do fall asleep quickly when using it. The only thing is it doesseem to roll off the bed during the night – probably because I’m a rather fidgetysleeper. This pillow is meant to help you to sleep more deeply, so hopefully givena bit more time, I won’t move around so much and it will stay put!
General lounging about and propping you up in bed
The great thing about Sausage Pillow is that it’s really versatile.
You can use the pillow for general lounging about on during the day. It’s also great for using in bed when reading or using a tablet. I curve it round me, so that my head is propped up a bit, forming a little pillow armchair which feels super comfy and snuggly.
Pregnancy pillow
It can be used as a pregnancy/nursing pillow, and I found a long pillow like this absolutely priceless during my pregnancy and for feeding afterwards. The support it gives you at night is amazing and I honestly don’t think I could have slept comfortably without it. So this is a definite must-buy if you are with bump!
Does it maintain its shape?
It’s gone a little squidgier in the middle than when I first had it but it was pretty firm to start with, so I’d actually say it’s more comfortable to use now. You’re advised to regularly fluff and plump up the filling by hand, which will help it to keep its shape. (I have also found Ethan wrestling it a few times, which probably hasn’t helped and is not one of its intended uses!)
Ethan loves Sausage Pillow. He says he would like one of his own! This size is suitable for seven years plus but there is a smaller version for younger children available.
The pillow can be washed at 40 degrees but you’d need a very large capacity machine! The pillow case can be washed at 30 degrees but can’t be tumble-dried.
How much does it cost?
The Kally Body Pillow costs £49.99 (correct at time of press) and comes with a free pillow case (usually £12.99).
Final thoughts
I’ve grown rather fond of cuddling Sausage Pillow. If you’re a mum-to-be, nursing, or suffer from neck or back pain, aching muscles, or you just want a better night’s sleep, I would fully recommend giving the Kally Body Pillow a go. It may well be the solution to your sleep troubles! (You have 14 nights to try out the pillow and if it’s not for you, you can request a refund.)
Order your Kally Body Pillow
You can order your orthopaedic Body Pillow from the Kally Sleep website, and while you’re there, have a little browse of the other sleep products they offer.
If you do buy one, I’d love to hear how you get on with it.
Sleep well, enjoy the cuddling!
