McDonald's unveils huge new triple burger and fan-favourites returning to menu (2024)

McDonald’s fans are in for a real treat this summer as the fast food chain is launching, not one, not two, but three brand new items.

And if that weren’t enough, it’s also bringing back a bunch of fan-favourites that have been sorely missed.

The menu is changing up in a few weeks and the star of the show will be a new burger known as The Hat Trick, which is larger than your average Maccies item with three beef patties stacked up inside.

As well as all that meat, there’s also two slices of cheese, grilled onions, mustard, and ketchup all served in a glazed sesame seed bun for the price of £5.89, or £7.69 as part of a medium meal.

Other savoury items being added to the menu from May 29 include sharing boxes, including a chicken share box (six Chicken Selects, 12 Chicken McNuggets, two McNuggets dips and two Selects dips), and a nine-piece Chicken Selects sharebox. These cost £10.59 and £8.49 respectively.

To accompany these, several classic dips have been given a makeover, with a new and improved recipe — including the Garlic Mayo, and the Sweet and Smoky BBQ. Both are being added permanently to the menu alongside Sweet Chilli as the perfect chicken companion.

But it doesn’t stop there… For cheese lovers, the iconic mozzarella bites are also making a comeback with a rich tomato dip (£2.39), and to finish off your meal there are some new sweet treats to choose from.

A Skittles McFlurry is joining the line-up, as well as a Galaxy Chocolate and Raspberry Pie (£1.99).

The Skittles Mcflurry (£2.19) is made using soft ice cream swirled with chewy Skittles fudge pieces and sugary pearls, topped with a purple Skittles-flavoured sauce. McDonald’s describes the dessert as ‘chewy, refreshing and undeniably sweet’, adding that it’s a ‘unique dessert experience’. Sounds intriguing!

Meanwhile the new pie shows the love for Galaxy isn’t still going strong. Fans of the chain previously hailed the current Galaxy Caramel pie the ‘best thing ever’ to be on the menu, and it seems McDonald’s is giving the people what they want as they’re set to put a new spin on it.

This version is said to be ‘a delicious combination of smooth chocolate and sweet fruit’, with crispy chocolate pastry filled with a smooth chocolate ganache and a raspberry compote.

Chocoholics will also be able to enjoy the Galaxy Caramel McFlurry (£2.19) once more as it’s also returning, and you can wash the whole thing down with McDonald’s Iced Latte (£2.49) which is also back as a permanent addition for summer.

This comes after McDonald’s recently made changes to the way burgers are cooked in restaurants.

While it’s still pretty much the same ingredients being used for each, thefast food chainhas switched up the way the patties are grilled. They’re now given a ‘tighter sear’ to keep the juices locked inside to produce a hotter and more flavourfulburger.

Onions are now applied directly onto the meat on the grill when it’s finished cooking, which is said to make them taste ‘more savoury’. Thomas O’Neill, the head of menu for McDonald’s UK explained: ‘It takes the acidity away from the onions and gives it really beefy flavour.’

Another big change is all to do with the cheese, which is being left at an ambient temperature to help it melt quicker on burgers, and the standard buns are being replaced with new glazed brioche-style buns featuring less sesame seeds than before.

Last, but not least, there are some tweaks to the lettuce, which is especially important for Big Mac fans. The salad will be stored at a lower temperature than before and will only be out of the fridge for 30 minutes to keep it nice and fresh, in order to give more crisp to each bite.

These changes are said to create McDonald’s ‘best burger’, but the chain has also recently teased their biggest burger ever.

The CFO Ian Borden said that they have ‘created a larger satiating burger,’ which is expected to be rolled out across the golden arches soon.

Though it’s not yet been confirmed whether this will be coming to the UK and when it’ll be released, McDonald’s say it’s being tested it in a ‘few markets later this year,’ adding they were ‘ensuring that it has universal appeal before scaling it across the globe.’
