Hi have bought a 3 yr old mare she is 15.1hh at the moment.
I know it depends on the individual horse but just interested in hearing how much more did your horse grow after 3yrs old?

My IDx was 16.2hh at 3yo and has ended up a tad over 17.2hh. I read somewhere about measuring from the elbow to the heel and doubling it and that would be their approximate 'I've finished growing now' height. Worked for me Don't know if that was myth but give it a try.

I will watch this thread with interest. My little 3 yr old is only 14.3hh at the moment. She's grown an inch in 8 months. But I can't see her growing much more. I think 15hh is the best I can hope for. A cob that arrived here aged 5 and 14hh was 14.2hh by the time he was 9. They are all different. Some stop growing at 3, others continue growing until they are 8. But looking at my little filly, I don't think she has much left to do unfortunately.

Lol, I decided to stop worrying at 17hh as decided, for me, anything more than that was probably irrelevant! Its still gonna hurt whether it's from 17 or 17'3

The bigger my mare makes the better! I would love her to make 16.2 but I would think she will make 15.3 to 16hh.... we shall see

I had a 3 year old 15.3hh CB/TB, she barely grew another 1/2 inch. I was always told they kept on growing until they were 7 but in her case it never happened (she was fit and well (and fed properly!))

I think certain breeds like ID are more likely to grow later than native types.
Curious now to the breeds of those who have grown several inches

I bought a three yo from a well known warmblood stud he was 15.1 and being sold cheap because he was undersized.
From the moment he stepped off the carriers lorry he grew and grew and by six he was 17.2 .

My horse is ID cross so you are correct about certain breeds he grew in leaps and bounds till eight like I said have not measured after 16.2 but hacked out with a friends 17.2 and looked quite equal I hope not but twenty plus now so will not grow anymore

I used to be decisive, now I'm not so sure...
I bought Charlie horse as a rather scrawny 5 yo, just topped 16hh, and by the time he was 7 1/2 he had blossomed to almost 17hh.
Pity really as I only wanted a 16.1 pref, 16.2 max, but there again he suited OH perfectly.

All my youngsters end up growing more than I wanted!
3 year old ID x TB 15.2 at 3 ended up at 16.3 - he had been underfed before I got him and was by jumbo who I have heard often has late growing young stock
3 year old DWB 15.2 ended up 16.2 - she was cheap as they felt she wouldn't make the height - she did!
4 year old connie x TB - 15.2 but is already 15.3 at 5 and is croup high so think will make 16hh
As you can see I'm keen on 15.2s but they always seem to go over this!

My girly is Cleveland Bay X Moor pony and was 13.3hh at 3 years old though was very bum high
Here's her now as a 5 year old, still bum high! Currently 14.3hh at the bum and 14.2hh at the wither. No idea what she'll mature at as mum was only 12.3hh!
She's filled out a hell of a lot in the last 6 months and somehow has gone from having 7 1/2 inches of bone to almost 8 inches. Just hoping her front end catches up with the back end!! She's finally growing into her neck too.

At 3 my gelding barely reached 160cm. Now he is 8 and almost 170cm, and did his final growing from the age of 7 to 8.

My Westfalian pony was 15 hh at 3 and he hasn't grown at all since then. He is now 4 and a half and exactly the same size. He has however filled out and looks completely different
His parents are 14.1 and 14.2 and full sister was only 14 hh so I think he is quite large for the breed.

Still looking for the info I am now just trawling through this Q and A
https://forums-secure.horseandhound.co.uk/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_faq#faq_vb3_board_usage
"How do I add an image to a post?
Before adding a picture to a post you need to upload it into your*album
or to another website such as photobucket.
Then copy the full URL of the image, (not the page on which the image is located, nor any URL that doesn't end in the image file type extension (.jpg, .gif, .png)), and either press the 'Insert Image' icon or type
after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces between the URL of the image and the image tags. You can insert pictures from your albums*(?)*in this way too."
