Another favorite from the 4B's restaurant chain in Montana. Reviewers say to use coffee creamer or half and half in place of the cream for the most authentic flavor.

My mom and I both worked at the 4b's in Grants N.M. Many years ago. I waited tables and mom was a prep cook/salad bar lady. She made this recipe for years, I never really made it myself and now she's gone on to be with Jesus. So I'm going to give it a shot, wish me luck!

My late husband and I stopped at this restaurant in 1983 and they use to hand out little cards with the recipe on the back, we would make this soup all the time but somehow lost the card. I'm glad someone put it online. We loved that soup!

I originally received this recipe from the 4 B's in Miles City, Mt. Lost it and found this. I know it had coffee creamer in that I substituted with half and half. I served it to over 50 persons at my husband's 80th birthday. It was a hit! Thank you!

I used to work at 4B's, it was my first job and my step-dad and brother both worked at the corp. offices and our family is good friends with the Hainlines (family that owned it). I guess the ORIGINAL recipe isn't what they gave to customers my brother told me they printed it at one time, realized they did and reprinted the recipe they wanted the public to have. There is only a slight difference in ingredients I hear and I think my parents have it, I should actually check what the difference is but either way its still the best tomato soup in the world. Also, the recipe cards we used to give out at the store called for a huge batch, I don't know if whoever posted this split it down but I've heard that you HAVE to make the big batch, I guess if you split it it just doesn't come out exactly right, the big batch is just the perfect mix. When I worked there, depending on who made it, it always came out different, more creamy, less creamy, more oily (yes oil, it usually accumulates a layer of oil on top, haha, still yummy) it just looked different a lot, but always tasted awesome. My best friend HATES tomatoes and it took me a bit but when I was working there I finally got her to try it and she became obsessed with it, strained ofcourse, haha. So everybody should definitely try it! Its worth the effort! I might drive all the way out to crossroads just to get some......

I grew up with the 4B's restaurants and their tomato soup was my absolute favorite. I am so glad to find this recipe online! I made it and it tastes exactly as I remember. The 4B's restaurants are gone but the soup lives on! Many thanks for making it available.

I used to be a overnight cook for four b's, so I had to do a lot of the prep work for the following day. Right off the top of my head, I can't tell you everything that is right and wrong with these ingredients listed because I havn't worked for them since they were bought out by Star Buffet, but I will pitch what I can remember. The creamer was coffee creamer, which in most places is just half and half. The other thing is, a full restaurant batch required a quart of whipping cream. You don't use chicken broth, you use full concentrate chicken base. And the recipe that we had never had baking soda nor onions in it, but the sugar was there.

My German mother made this soup for all the years I knew her. My son ate at your restaurant and loved the soup. He surprised the waitress by knowing all the ingredients!!

  14. kalmakazee February 19, 2009

P.S. I forgot to mention that my wife substituted creamer for non dairy creamer. Being Jewish and all we wanted to keep the soup Pareve. (Jewish people don't eat dairy and meat together)We had chicken as a main course. :)

This tomato soup recipe was DELICIOUS!! I am NOT usually a fan of tomato soup but the recipe seemed to call for ingredients that were a little unique for a soup recipe and my curiosity got the better half of me.All in all I was VERY impressed with this recipe!! :)
