I am thinking of getting this one. The 6-man size is just right for two guys with cots. We put our stove on a small table in the vestibule. I switched out the steel tent pegs for big solid aluminum pegs and cut about 1.5# off the weight. My tent now weighs less than 25#. That's important when you're flying and paying for baggage. The 8-man size has more room but weighs more. The old style Cabelas Alaska Guide 8-man tent weighs about 80#. That's too heavy unless you're shipping via air freight both ways. IMHO a tent that bomb proof is not necessary in the lower 48. KC Wind in my hair, Sun on my face, I gazed at the wide open spaces, And I was at home. |

I use a big Mr Buddy and it keeps the tent very warm all night. You have to have the heater on low or it gets too hot. I use one tank of propane every four days. I also use it as my base tent so weight is not an issue, but I also changed out the heavy steel tent pegs. Somehow they have designed this tent so that it does not sweat inside the tent. It sweats between the fly and outside of the tent causing a thin layer of ice to develop on the outside...helping the tent stay warmer. Also, the design is such that a heavy wind does not affect the tent at all and heavy snow is no problem. Love this tent. I also have a Davis Tent's outfitters tent and use this one over that one. I had it for three years and love it. |

Broke a couple poles, but did not damage the tent or fly. The six will sleep 3 with room for some gear. We don't take cots or a heater, relying instead on good sleeping bags. I have done some cooking in the six when heavy winds were blowing, but really do not like to run flames in nylon tents. The six took some heavy wind and rain in Alaska that destroyed a neighboring camp of 4 other tents about a quarter mile away. Do get some wider stakes capable of holding, perhaps with a rock on top, in sandy soils. Still, when selecting a campsite, I urge one to take advantage of any sort of wind break be it a depression or even an island of shrubs only a few feet tall. Mother Nature can be a bitch. 1Minute |
